Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2, 2026
Tech Layoff Watch ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect when you use our website at tech-layoff-watch.vercel.app, how we use that information, which third-party services we work with, and what rights you have under applicable privacy laws including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Please read this policy carefully before using the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Automatically Collected Information
When you visit Tech Layoff Watch, our systems may automatically record the following non-personal information:
- The page URL visited and the timestamp of the visit
- Your browser's language preference and timezone
- Browser type and version (user agent string)
- A general geographic region inferred from your browser's timezone (not a precise location)
This information is collected in aggregate and is not linked to any individual identity. We use it solely to display a visitor counter on the site and to understand general traffic patterns that inform service improvements.
1.2 Browser Local Storage
We use your browser's localStorage (not first-party cookies) to store your language preference and a local visitor count. This data lives entirely on your device. It is never transmitted to our servers and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's site data or localStorage for our domain.
1.3 Information You Voluntarily Provide
If you choose to contact us via email (for feedback, data corrections, or other inquiries), we will receive your email address and the content of your message. This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list or share your contact information with third parties.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
To be transparent about our privacy practices, Tech Layoff Watch does not collect:
- Your name, phone number, postal address, or any personal identifiers beyond voluntary email contact
- Your IP address — we do not log or store IP addresses in our own systems
- Precise geolocation data
- Payment or financial information of any kind
- Biometric data, health information, or other sensitive personal data categories
- Any information from children under 13 years of age
3. Cookies and Advertising
Our own website does not set first-party tracking cookies. However, we display advertisements through third-party networks, and these networks may place cookies on your browser to deliver and measure ads. You should be aware of the following advertising partners:
3.1 Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on Tech Layoff Watch. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads tailored to your interests based on your browsing history across participating websites. Google's DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings. Additional opt-out options are available at www.aboutads.info/choices and www.networkadvertising.org/choices. For full details on Google's data practices, please review the Google Privacy Policy.
3.2 Adsterra
We also display advertisements through Adsterra, which may use cookies and tracking pixels to deliver, target, and measure advertising effectiveness. For information on how Adsterra handles data, please review the Adsterra Privacy Policy. You can limit the use of cookies by adjusting your browser's privacy settings or by using a browser extension that manages cookie consent.
4. Third-Party Services We Use
In addition to advertising partners, Tech Layoff Watch uses the following third-party services as part of its technical infrastructure:
- Vercel: Our website is hosted on Vercel's platform. Vercel may collect standard server access logs as part of their hosting infrastructure. See Vercel's Privacy Policy for details.
- Chart.js via jsDelivr CDN: We use Chart.js loaded from the jsDelivr CDN to render our data visualizations. No user data is transmitted to Chart.js or jsDelivr; this is a client-side library loaded from a public CDN.
- Google Sheets (Webhook): We use a webhook to log anonymized visit count data. The payload includes only a timestamp and an anonymous identifier — no personal information is included.
- Public Layoff Data Sources: We read publicly available data from news websites, SEC EDGAR filings, and company press releases. These reads are performed by our data curators and do not involve any user data.
5. How We Use the Data We Collect
The limited data we collect is used exclusively for:
- Displaying the aggregate visitor counter on the dashboard (today's visitors and total visitors)
- Understanding overall traffic trends to guide improvements to the service
- Responding to user inquiries submitted via email
- Detecting and preventing abuse or unusual automated activity
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share visitor data with third parties for commercial purposes. We do not use collected data to build behavioral profiles or to send unsolicited marketing communications.
6. Data Retention
Aggregate visit log data retained in our systems is kept for a maximum of 90 days and then deleted. Email correspondence is retained only as long as necessary to resolve the relevant inquiry, typically no longer than 12 months. Browser localStorage data is stored on your device and is subject to your own browser's data management settings.
7. Your Rights Under GDPR
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation and applicable national implementing laws grant you the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of Access: You may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You may request that we delete personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: You may request that we correct inaccurate personal data.
- Right to Object: You may object to the processing of your personal data for specific purposes.
- Right to Data Portability: You may request your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Right to Restrict Processing: You may request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
Because we collect very minimal identifying data from visitors, most of these rights may not yield substantive results — we generally do not hold personal files on individual users. Nonetheless, we take all rights requests seriously and will respond within 30 days. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at taeshinkim11@gmail.com.
8. Your Rights Under CCPA (California Residents)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you specific rights regarding your personal information. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell; the right to request deletion of your personal information; and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information to third parties. To submit a CCPA request, contact us at taeshinkim11@gmail.com.
9. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we collect. Our website is served exclusively over HTTPS. Access to our visit log data (stored via Google Sheets webhook) is restricted to the site administrator. We do not store sensitive personal information, payment data, or passwords, which minimizes the risk profile of any potential data security incident.
10. Children's Privacy
Tech Layoff Watch is not directed at children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at taeshinkim11@gmail.com and we will take prompt steps to delete such information.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the third-party services we use, or applicable legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Service after any changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Contact
